In our Wiki Classroom we all access, process, and express information in various ways. “By viewing different theories on learning styles, personality
types, and multiple intelligences, educators can learn about the individual ways in which they and their students learn and solve problems. As more information about each student’s learning styles, modalities, multiple intelligences, and thinking styles is gathered, it allows teachers to use the knowledge of student strengths as an entry point for instruction and to capture attention.” (Gregory, 2007, Differentiated Instructional Strategies, One Size Doesn’t Fit All (2nd ed.). Thousand Oaks, CA: Corwin Press).

In this class, there are mainly verbal/linguistic, logical/mathematical,
musical/rhythmic, bodily/kinesthetic, and visual/spatial intelligences. I have done my work getting to know all of you to understand your strengths and weaknesses that has helped me build up learning profiles for each of you. Each of you know your strengths and weaknessess, as well, which is essential for knowing what areas need improving and has, also, built up your self confidences. Goal setting and metacognition have been implemented through this gathering of data of your abilities, talents, and areas that need
improvement.

A differentiated classroom is a place where students differ from each other in
physical abilities, social development, intelligences, talents, and personalities. That means you can’t be treated all the same. You all learn differently and have separate interests, preferences, and needs, so as the teacher I need to use various garments to fit all of the students’ sizes, because one size does not fit all of you. It is a challenging experience for me, but very rewarding. I have had to come to know the standards and my students, because the standards and the needs of my students should determine my instructional decisions. The quest in schools today, and in this classroom, “is to foster success for students in their lives through becoming self-directed, productive problem solvers and thinkers.” “Differentiation is a philosophy that enables educators to plan strategically in order to reach the needs of the diverse learners in classrooms today to achieve targeted standards. Differentiation is not a set of tools, but a belief system educators embrace to meet the unique needs of every learner.” (Gregory, 2007
Differentiated Instructional Strategies, One Size Doesn’t Fit All (2nd ed.). Thousand Oaks, CA: Corwin Press).

For an assignment on Multiple Intelligences I would like each of you to determine which one you have and how you can utilize it in the best way. Which "Intelligence" you have will determine what part of our next project you will be assigned. Here is the link to the web page where you may find the self-assessment:
http://www.edutopia.org/multiple-intelligences-assessment.

Please, take this self-assessment and then post your results and any thoughts and feelings you have in the Discussion Thread named, "Multiple Intelligences" below.

I can't wait to read what we find out!
